Our City, Our Spaces: Adaptive Reuse for Community Benefit

In the last three decades, Ontario’s mid-sized cities (MSCs) have experienced significant economic, sociodemographic, environmental, and fiscal changes that are prompting them to reinvent themselves. With so many underutilized physical assets, many MSCs are experimenting with innovative approaches to reanimating spaces, reinvigorating neighbourhoods, and encouraging innovation.

Civicplan was retained to conduct a case study analysis of 4 examples of adaptive reuse from MSCs in Ontario. Examples include initiatives that deal with downtown renewal, affordable housing, economic diversification and community infrastructure.
