Cities are embracing their natural heritage like never before. Whether it’s highlighting their tourism potential or promoting healthy active lifestyles, progressive communities are focused on getting people outside.

Hiking provides a low impact, accessible form of outdoor exercise, but most people are not aware of the trail systems available to them. Using the Geotrail mapping platform, Civicplan created an interactive hiking website for the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG). In Summer 2017, the RBG and Geotrail expanded their partnership and launched two new canoe routes on the Geotrail website helping users get on the water and explore Cootes Paradise, a National Historic Site, a Nationally Important Bird Area (IBA), and an Important Amphibian and Reptile Area (IMPARA).
