Durand Coffee

Durand Coffee is one of Hamilton’s newest neighbourhood hotspot, providing a much needed social destination in the heart of one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods. Small business provides economic development and vibrancy to communities and are a key part to making neighbourhoods sustainable over the long term.

Civicplan helped Chris and Christine, the entrepreneurs behind this business, navigate the local planning process to get their café up and running. As it stood, a café was not permissible at the chosen location and therefore engagement with City Hall was necessary. Civicplan developed a solid planning case for the proposed business and provided strategic advice to help guide an application through the Committee of Adjustment (COA). The positive outcome means that the new café is a legal use at its chosen location, turning a previously desolate corner into a new neighbourhood asset.
