Fisherman’s Pier District Concept Plan
Fisherman’s Pier is located at the entrance to the Hamilton Harbour at the shipping canal. The canal marks the municipal boundary between Hamilton and Burlington. The area includes land on both sides of the canal and many notable landmarks such as the Lift Bridge, Skyway Bridge, Historic Lighthouse, and Breakwater Piers.
The Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority is the land owner and/or manager for much of the land and were interested in developing a concept plan for the area. The result was PlanLocal: Fisherman’s Pier, a participatory planning process that helped guide the development of the concept plan.
The Fisherman’s Pier District Concept plan includes:
- A central public plaza with space for seasonal cultural programming and the lighthouse as a focal point;
- A greenspace extending toward Beach Blvd.;
- Upgraded angling amenities;
- Accessible and upgraded pedestrian piers;
- Lighting features on the Burlington Skyway Bridge to act as a beacon and gateway to the region.
